Nepal Travel Advice, Tips and Stories
A Diabetic Travel Blog
I hope you enjoy my Nepal travel blog (even if you aren’t diabetic!) I offer tips for diabetic travel, which can be valuable for people without diabetes as well. Safe and healthful travel is great for all of us!
We visited Nepal for nine days in early Oct 2023. Note I say “early”. That is because October is supposed to be after monsoon season, and unfortunately for us, the monsoon season in 2023 (and 2022 we understand as well) continued well into mid-October. Lesson Learned: Climate is changing – don’t depend on existing weather patterns and go in the MIDDLE of the good season!
We spent 3 nights / 2 days in the Kathmandu valley, 3 nights / 4 days in Chitwan National Park, 2 nights / 2 days in Pokhara, and 2 final nights in the Kathmandu valley. We navigated between the areas by plane – Air Buddha. They say the airlines are prone to delays and we can certainly attest to that! But we can also say they must be better than the roads, as even the roads between the airports and our towns were difficult and stressful!
Nepal had been a bucket list item for me for many years. I’m sorry to say that it did disappoint. How could it not disappoint? I came for the views of the Himalayan Mountains, and we got barely a glimpse from an airplane on our final day.
What we did not know beforehand was how extraordinarily wonderful the people of Nepal are. I can easily say we loved the people the most of any culture we have ever visited.
Will we go back? Oh, I want to, but it is so very far away from Boston…
