Germany Travel Advice, Tips and Stories
A Diabetic Travel Blog
I hope you enjoy my Germany travel blog (even if you aren’t diabetic!) I offer tips for diabetic travel which can be valuable for people without diabetes as well. Safe and healthful travel is great for all of us!
We visited Bavaria including Passau, Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirken and Nuremberg in early October 2018 for an amazing three days.
We originally planned just a night’s stop-over in Munich before our flight home, checking out the Munich Glockenspiel in the town center.
However, at the opportune moment during our trip planning, we viewed that crazy reality TV show “Better Late than Never”, starring William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw, Henry Winkler and George Foreman. They visited a mountaintop in southern Germany from which they could see Germany, Switzerland and Italy. It was so beautiful that I had to investigate.
That led us to Garmisch-Partenkirken and the Zugspitze mountaintop.
Next, my parents’ rambling around Germany in the late ’50’s (Dad was in the Army and my mother in the Army Library Service), led us to the picturesque and historic town of Nuremburg. My parents loved Nuremburg, and I felt I couldn’t leave Germany without seeing it for myself.
This led us on a daytrip to its historic downtown, with the Glockenspiel, Castle, Schoner Brunnen, an ornate Gothic spire, the museum of the Nurenburg Trials, and farther afield, the former Nazi Party rally grounds.
Altogether it was a really nice introduction to Bavaria, more than I originally dreamed.
