I hope you enjoy my Jordan travel blog (even if you aren’t diabetic!) I offer tips for diabetic travel, which can be valuable for people without diabetes as well. Safe and healthy travel is great for all of us!
We visited Jordan for five days in November 2022, visiting Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Madaba and not one, but three crusader castles! Originally planned as a quick add-on to Egypt, the visit grew into an expedition of wide variety. Definitely you need to make Jordan a destination.
Day 1 – Arrival in Amman after crossing the Jordan River from Israel at the King Hussein Bridge.
Day 2 – Amman sightseeing (Blue Mosque, Amman Citadel), then drove north to the ancient Roman city of Jerash. A detour to the Castle at Aljoun and then arrival at the Hilton Dead Sea Resort.
Day 3 – An amazing morning spent swimming in the Dead Sea at the Hilton Dead Sea Resort, then a fascinating drive along the Dead Sea, up and over the mountains to Wadi Musa. Stopped for a tour of the Shobak Crusader Castle. Night in Wadi Musa.
Day 4 – An early morning start to our guided hike of Petra, complete with camel ride, mule ride to the Monastery and golf cart ride out of the valley and back to town! Late afternoon drive to Wadi Rum. Evening at the Memories by Aitcha camp in the desert. It was a night never to be forgotten!
Day 5 – Morning desert tour of Wadi Rum, followed by a drive to Aqaba and afternoon snorkel in the Red Sea. We packed a lot into that day. Perhaps too much?
Day 6 – Drive north along the Arabia desert, visiting Karak Castle and Madaba, the home of the famous Madaba mosaic map, and Mt Nebo. We finally arrived after dark in Amman for our final night.
Day 7 – Early afternoon flight to Cairo to continue our trip in Egypt.

The Wadi Rum, Jordan, national park area is run by the local Bedouins which also gives character to the tours. The Bedouins provide the transportation and tours; the camps, though, are run by businesses. To enjoy the experience you must be ready for both extremes of service. Memories Aitcha is hands-down one of the most special accommodations we have ever stayed in. Choose the Panoramic Tent.
What a wonderful guide was our Zaid! As we strolled down the path through the Al Siq, he taught us the Nabatean history, the meaning of the carved sculptures and Roman history as well. I was interested, but I was also very interested in taking pictures.
