At Jan Thiel Beach, south of Willemstad in Curacao, lives the Dolphin Academy. The Dolphin Academy offers swimming, snorkeling and diving opportunities with the dolphins.
As a diabetic I have never learned to dive. I thought about it one day. I imagined myself deep underwater, realizing my sugar is low and reaching for my ever-present juice pack. I pulled the straw off, poked it through the little foil circle, brought the straw to my mouth and what??? There’s a solid surface between my mouth and my sugar source! The only way to get sugar into my body is to surface.
I love to snorkel. I wear a fanny pack around my waist containing a Capri Sun juice pack. If I feel I need any extra boost, I just roll over on my back, take off my mask and snorkel, relax and drink. No biggie, no disturbance, no worries.
When Greg offered me the “Snorkel with the Dolphins” activity at Curacao for my birthday I immediately said, “Yes!”
