It seemed all very complicated to get to Montserrat: Metro to the Espana Rail Station in Barcelona, then a commuter line to Montserrat, then a choice between a cable car and a cog railway, each at different train stops. Somehow a funicular fit in?
We bought the Trans-Montserrat ticket at the tourist information center and just followed the bouncing ball, choosing the cog railway. We saw one other tourist couple get off at the station for the cog railway when they had tickets for the cable car. Sent back to the cable car station by the man in charge, which is no small delay since the trains only run every hour, they looked so disappointed and confused.
We weren’t!
