County Waterford to Dublin Itinerary and Video

Although we didn’t spend a great deal of time in Waterford, it was key destination for us, as it is the home of the “Powers” family, aka, “dePooer” family. Me, I’m a Scottish “Kirkwood”, that is, a “Church-in-the-Woods,” but Greg now, he’s a “Poor-person”. He was sad to learn that.

However, southwest of Waterford City is the Dunhill Castle, the heritage home of the Powers family, a beautiful relict of earlier times set in the countryside. East of Cork City is the Midleton Distillery where Powers Whiskey is distilled (seen in our previous video). So, all in all, a real family destination.

We also checked out the House of Waterford Crystal factory, and then drove up to Powerscourt (no relation to the DePooer family) for a glimpse of the tallest waterfall in Ireland, just south of Dublin. Greg was disappointed by the waterfalls in Ireland. He loved the waterfalls in Iceland – huge rushes of water falling freely from cliffs in huge volume. The waterfalls in Ireland were frothy cascades meandering down hillsides. They were nice for a picture, and of course he had to pose in front of them, but they didn’t give the observer that rush of excitement.

At the very end of the trip we did Dublin – the Book of Kells and Long Library at Trinity College, the Dublin Castle, Christchurch, Dublinia Museum (highly recommended), St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The cherry on the top of the cake turned out to the the Gay Pride Parade which formed and marched just under our hotel window on Upper O’Connell Street!
