Queensland Australia Driving Tour (video)

In mid-September 2019 we embarked on a 40-day ‘other-side-of-the-world’ trip. Queensland, Australia AND Japan seems an odd combination, but it worked for us.

We rented an SUV and spent three weeks touring Queensland, Australia, visiting not one but TWO Great Barrier Reef islands for the ultimate ‘see-it-before-it’s-gone’ trip. We flew from Boston to Brisbane, checked out some wonderful sights in Brisbane, drove up to Noosa Heads, and to Hervey Bay, where we caught a tiny airplane out to Lady Elliot Island for our several day snorkeling adventure. Upon our return to the mainland we drove north through Seventeen Seventy, to Gladstone where we took the catamaran out to Heron Island, once again for several days of snorkeling.

At the end of our Queensland trip we flew from Gladstone to Brisbane to Cairns, visited Cairns for just an overnight to catch our breath, then flew up to Osaka, Japan for three weeks of very different touring via train and bus.

Here is our Queensland Australia trip, minus the Great Barrier Reef islands which I’ve put in their own separate videos. Lady Ellliot Island. Heron Island.

We were so very sad to have to leave Australia. It had been such a tremendous combination of relaxation and adventure. I highly recommend September as a great time to visit Queensland – it’s springtime. The air is fresh, and there aren’t any crowds.
