Lupines in Iceland’s south coast lava fields

Lupines on the south coast

This is a very low-key favorite.  It is entirely dependent on whether you visit during lupine-season or not.  (That could be all summer for all I know).    I can definitely say that lupines are NOT in season in May.  My husband and I went during the last week in May and saw only a few early lupines.  However when my parents and I traveled during the last weeks of June, the sides of the road after Skógafoss and before Vik were filled with purple lupines.   A few couple red ones were thrown in for good measure.

We must have spent a full hour sitting in the lupines, or wandering trying to find the perfect perspective of lupines against the far mountains.  The sky was blue, the flies were not buzzing.  There were a couple of rocks interspersed, and I popped myself on a rock meditated.  (I took a couple of pictures myself)

The fields were located right along the main Rt 1 near Skogafoss.
