After our experience with Costa Rica Expeditions, and with more time available, my research into Albania was more extensive. I emailed three different providers – a local company in Albania, a company local to Boston, and an international travel company. Tours-Albania immediately responded. The owner, Jimmy Lama, was able to provide a driver/guide which could take us both throughout Albania and throughout Montenegro, as we wanted. The Boston-based company was slow to respond, and seem to lack understanding of what we wanted, and seemed unable to arrange a Montenegrin trip. The international company responded after about ten days, and said she would get back to me shortly. It wasn’t until the trip was fully booked with Tours-Albania, and several months later, that she called back.
Tours-Albania was as much of an adventure as the country. It turned out that owner thought Greg and I were two women. They had arranged twin rooms throughout the trip and seemed to scramble from time to time with unknown activities, unknown because we don’t speak Albanian. In spite of their surprise, they were able to give us a fantastic trip through Albania, and Montenegro as well.
Kledi Milloshi of Tours-Albania
Kledi Milloshi was our driver/guide, and we think of him from time to time and wish he were on-line. I search the web periodically for him, and he has not yet appeared. He had such a dry sense of humor, took good care of us always, was so knowledgeable about the historical sites, and filled our minds with vivid stories of the country’s Communist past and hopeful future. He became like a brother to us.
