Category: About Me
Hello, my name is Wendy Kirkwood Powers and this is my travel blog. I am a type 1 diabetic, and have been for fifty-three years. (I think I’ll have to remember to update this post each year! Yup, 2023, done that!)
Yes, it is now fifty-three years, having been diagnosed at the age of seven. No, that isn’t a picture of me at age seven – it’s a picture of me five winters ago at Cenote Zaci in Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico!
It was a precarious life growing up in the years before daily home blood sugar testing. How many of you out there remember peeing on a strip, peering at the color and trying to figure out how much excess sugar you were spilling several hours prior?

I’ve written a lot of articles for some countries, and less for others. The volume of articles is no reflection of how much we loved the country; it is more a reflection of how much time I had available to write about it once we returned.
Now that I am retired I’ll have all the time in the world (dream on!) to write about our adventures and hopefully convince you to challenge your own constraints!
You don’t understand, I could never…

Heart-stopping Moments of Light and Texture
My heart races and I see bright flashes of color. I briefly hold my breath and, with my eyes closed, slowly look around. I am experiencing a flash-back. It’s not deja-vu, although truly, I have already seen these visions already. I am remembering particular, individual moments from my recent travels

Our Tropical Beach-front Cabaña
In 2014 we searched for the right Christmas vacation destination. With a nine-day Christmas shutdown provided to me courtesy of Raytheon Co., each year we looked for a near-by destination which would give us that away-from-it-all feeling. After our success in Belize, we focused on the Yucatan, Mexico. We learned
